rups - i miss you! i feel like i haven't seen you all week. wanna schedule a 15 min starbucks or toys r us run later in the day? i wanna try to leave at like 4, though, so i can meet up with my mom and aunt. their plan is to start the day at chinatown, then work their way up broadway, walking around and doing some shopping. hopefully they'll make it up to ~34th st or so, and i'll meet up with them there when i'm done with work.

meg - how's edgar's grandmother doing? come visit! you should come visit next weekend, since ekta will be here too. we can have a little reunion :) i sent cari a bday card yesterday. she bought me a bday present (a U.Mich long sleeve), so i felt that the least i could do was send her a card.

i dont know what to do with my vacation :( i wanted to go to paris with dev but my parents were totally not happy when i tried to slip that into conversation the other day - we fought about it a lot...my other idea was just to go home and hang out - to get over the feeling i get when dev gets to spend a week in stl or you get to go to miami from wed - mon etc...but now that they arent letting me go to paris im mad at them and dont really want to go home. hopefully that subsides...if anything i think dev and i may go to montreal for a weekend and ill go home for half a week or something...but its hard to find 8 days to take off in one month, esp when everyone will be off around then...

the sick grandma

here's the deal.
she's in the hospital and has been since tuesday night. hopefully she'll be out . . . well, today actually. obviously, if she is still in the hospital i'm not even asking him to go. i did meet up with him last night and give him crumb cake from the vending machine (because he said it sounded good) and loan him a book so he'd have something to do! i'm not a completely heartless girlfriend . . . :(

it's a perfect fall day in rochester - not warm, but not so cold that you are comfortable walking around. and its sooo sunny out! one of the girls in my lab is doing her thesis defense today and i said i'd help set up for the party - that is the ONLY reason i'm still here . . . i was here 12 hours yesterday and that makes me not want to be here today :)

it's so quiet here this morning. . .and i already completed my absentee ballot! now all i have to do is mail it today and i'm all set. aren't you guys proud of me??? it's the first time i've ever voted :)

i studied for almost 5 hours straight yesterday, with minor breaks to watch the cards get their asses kicked and to eat dinner...

i got my nails done during "lunch" light pink for a change - i have been doing bright red the last few times :) the lady had issues with her cell phone bill and doesnt speak much english so she had me call verizon for her! i have to call and complain about my bill enough i couldnt belive i couldnt just relax for once...and she took forever cause of that...anyway they wouldnt give me any info cause its her friends account, she just uses the phone...that was my good deed for the day :)

thanks nush, but i'm ok. i'm just tired. i guess going out of town so much and having people visit is wearing me down. i'd be more excited about halloween if my mom and aunt weren't going to be here, but since they are, i'd rather just stay home with them and watch a movie or something.

don't worry, i'm still happy julie! just a little more anti-social. i just realized last night that all i do when i come home is watch mindless tv - i don't even read anymore, and i love reading! (and no, i'm not talking just about cosmo). so last night i started a new book that my dad recommended, Identity. the author is milan kundera (or something like that). he wrote "The unbearable lightness of being", which i think is a pretty known book. i liked it, so now i'll try reading this one. reading for 30 mins before going to bed last night made me so much happier than watching tv :)

jules, whats wrong?? this is all very unlike you...i mean if i tried to crawl under a rock and hide cause it was halloween that would be expected, but you usually love this stuff? sorry if i havent been more observant around the apt if you have been sad! i guess im just in my own world where i come home, eat and go to my room and close the door...

no more meetings

so all my meetings for today got cancelled after all :) which means i have more time to blog and to dig through all the new email.

my mom is doing fine. her surgery wasn't serious, just delicate. my mom has about 50%hearing in one ear and had about 10% in the other. she had surgery on the 10% ear yesterday that might hopefully restore more of her hearing (bring her up to about 80%). basically they cut the ear drum down the middle and then put a splint on it and bend it so that the new angle makes it almost like she has hearing like a normal person. so the actual procedure only took about 2 hrs, but they don't let you move at all or eat or anything the first day so that you don't vibrate it. and then you have to stay horizontal for 2 weeks while it heals. i guess cuz it's so little they don't want you to have any sudden movements or to hear any loud noises :)

so she's home this morning and fine. there were a few random complcations but all were fixed yesterday.. she just has to stay in bed for a while and not talk at all... which will be the hard part :) i've never seen her even sleep in so i don't know how she'll stay in bed when the rest of her feels ok.. and i've never seen her be quiet :)

i hope the sox do it this year. and i hope that's a sign that kerry's gonna win too :) lunch next week is fine anytime.

megan- i hope i see you this weekend!!! if you guys need a place to stay, although i'm sure there's a fair number of MITers to visit, my sister has an extra futon that you could share. look at that! rupa's planning 4 days in advance! scary :)

i'm back! i have to run to a meeting this morning (blah) but wanted to say hi!! megan- i am DEFINITELY going to boston this weekend if the series lasts longer than thursday :) it would be really fun to hang out there! i almost went on saturday to watch game one, but then decided it was too far to go and come back to philly. hopefully the sox just win tonight and thursday :) in which case i'm gonna stay in NYC... or we could go to boston anyway. it will be REALLY fun to watch it there so if the series goes into fri/sat, i'm gonna be there. yay!

he is actually doing well. he misses her obviously but he spent a lot of time finding himself again and remembering and realizing all the stuff he was willing to give up for her, but now he doesnt have to...and he is actually seeing someone now! she is colombian (from bogota, moved here like 3 years ago). the problem there is he is happy to have someone that he is interested in, but she is waaay too into it for him...he speaks to her in spanish and she talks to him in english so they can both improve :) isnt that cute? i love him :)

so, i have a wireless mouse that eun gave me, but i think the batteries are dying so i keep having to play with it so that it works!

i was supposed to get samples like . . . now. actually, they were supposed to be here about an hour ago. but they aren't. i think i might call the nurse and just see how long she is expecting to take . . . because technically, eun wanted me to go to a lab meeting with her - she wanted me to just walk in an hour late, because that was about the time she was expecting to start her part. but i thought i was going to be 40 minutes into processing the blood by now . . . instead, i haven't even gotten it.

there is an investment fair going on downstairs. like, fidelity and different banks - big companies wanting people with normal size paychecks to invest their money there. metlife is down there - with little snoopie beanie babies! i want one. i will get one . . .hopefully, the blood will get here in the next five minutes and i'll process the blood instead of go to the meeting and while its centrifuging, i'll go down with courtney.

i think he is the best guy i have ever met (i think ameya is a close second...) i had dinner with him last night at sushi samba (we went to blue ribbon first but there was an hour wait!! jules, when your diet is over we should go) and just everything he says and does is so cute...

random story

so, this weekend i went to buffalo . . .
saturday, i went over to my cousins and spent the afternoon playing with her 4 year old. he was born january of our freshman year. as a baby, he saw more of steve's gf missy and favored her. my aunt and i (his great aunt, not his grandmother) thought that was horrible and went on a crusade to make him like us best. i am working at it harder than she is . . . i spent the afternoon playing baseball, hockey, basketball, writing out the alphabet and numbers in chalk . . . by the time we went inside, nicky asked if he could sit in my lap :) i am SO the favorite over missy! (she was there this whole time . . .) steve is my cousin's other kid's godfather, so i figure he and missy are already going to win that one over . . . but i am def winning the nicky war :)

jackie has a 46 year old man totally infatuated with her at work, and she's completely grossed out by the idea of it! he sent her a really pretty flower and pics of himself this weekend (so that she could show her friends what he looks like). creepy, huh?

meg, we didn't run into este and the guys. turns out este didn't end up going to nc (i don't know why). peter talked to gaby, one of the guys, and they were going to meet up during halftime, but that never happened. jackie and evelyn saw them while they were driving in the car, but the guys didn't see them. i think it's weird they didn't call or anything, but oh well, i don't really care.

the drive was so pretty! needless to say, there aren't too many trees in nyc, so i hadn't even noticed that all the leaves were changing color already!

all i'm doing is mindless copying #s from a sheet of paper and then onto an excel sheet. i would love to have a dvd player in this computer . . . and a series of dvds . . . so i could at least find some way of entertaining myself.

i called megan to tell her this over the weekend cause i couldnt handle it anymore, but the highlight of my weekend was friday night at the wedding reception, im sitting there talking to ameya and some work people, def tipsy, and i keep looking at this tall blond girl cause she looks sooo much like lil meghan - well rightfully so, cause it was lil meg!!! apparently she met this 40 year old guy at csfb while she interned there and they are dating! yup no more arture, just our meg who just turned 21 or 22 and her 40 year old bf who is friends with allen, my 45 yr old boss!!! soooo weird and soooo gross! :)

we left the party around 12, and called steveo and stuff but they were all just at home drinking so i told ameya id rather just go home. jules- now i know how jackie feels when she is alone all weekend - i dont like it - the apt is so old that it makes random noises and when you are alone, and drunk, thats pretty scary. plus with this whole time warner thing im freaked out that the guy and his friends etc hate us and know where we live...

i went home at like 5 am on fri and was there by 830, went to the temple, went out for bagels, came home and studied, and hung out with my family. it was nice. i cant believe my grandparents have left already...its sad that i dont know when ill see them again...

on the way to JFK to drop them off my parents dropped me off at stanford and i took the train...came home, went to j crew to get my suit altered and then ate/studied/watched the pathetic game. im not mad cause i dont really care about baseball, but its annoying to watch both teams play so miserably. the sox were playing so well against the yanks, it just seems like they are winning now cause the cards are just playing bad. its sort of pathetic to watch...hopefully the rest of the games are less pathetic...

tonight im having dinner with liam, he is coming by the apt to see it then we will go out for a quick bite to eat...

we left the party around 12, and called steveo and stuff but they were all just at home drinking so i told ameya id rather just go home. jules- now i know how jackie feels when she is alone all weekend - i dont like it - the apt is so old that it makes random noises and when you are alone, and drunk, thats pretty scary. plus with this whole time warner thing im freaked out that the guy and his friends etc hate us and know where we live...

i went home at like 5 am on fri and was there by 830, went to the temple, went out for bagels, came home and studied, and hung out with my family. it was nice. i cant believe my grandparents have left already...its sad that i dont know when ill see them again...

on the way to JFK to drop them off my parents dropped me off at stanford and i took the train...came home, went to j crew to get my suit altered and then ate/studied/watched the pathetic game. im not mad cause i dont really care about baseball, but its annoying to watch both teams play so miserably. the sox were playing so well against the yanks, it just seems like they are winning now cause the cards are just playing bad. its sort of pathetic to watch...hopefully the rest of the games are less pathetic...

tonight im having dinner with liam, he is coming by the apt to see it then we will go out for a quick bite to eat...

im not that busy but i get bored checking this thing when people write so infrequently, so i force myself to only check once in an hour and a half :)

i had such a fun weekend. we definitely missed out on a lot by going to a school where the concept of sports is completely foreign. the football game was sat night at 8pm. people started tailgating at like noon. need i say more?

we didn't start tailgating until about 4. we met up with some of evelyn's friends - one of them was from miami, so a lot of his friends from miami were in town, too. turns out they went to one of the catholic high schools in miami, so of course we knew each of them or their cousins or something. we created our own little miami party in the parking lot full of nc state students. when we were walking around earlier, it was just peter and us 4 girls (me, jackie, evelyn and her gf, deanna). anyways, nc state people weren't too excited about seeing miami fans walking around (although deanna and evelyn were both wearing nc state colors). peter had a beer bottle and two footballs thrown at him, so that wasn't so cool. poor peter. he couldn't do anything since he didn't think the 4 girls would back him up. oh well.

anyways, after we met up with the little miami crew, we definitely turned up the spanish music and started to salsa in the parking lot. no one else was even playing music! we definitely lived up to all the miami/hispanic stereotypes about us being loud and obnoxious ;)

miami won the football game (of course). after the game, we all had huge headaches since we'd been drinking all day, but then we stopped once the game started. jackie and deanna stayed home, but evelyn, peter and i decided to tough it out and we went to a party, anyways. it was at evelyn's friend's apt (the one from miami), so there was really good music, tons of alcohol, and miami boys that know how to dance :)

all in all, a great weekend. now i'm sad it's monday morning, i'm at work, and i need to start the south beach diet again today (we gave up trying to stick with it over the weekend, cause there's no way that was going to happen). blah.

its rainy out but i'm in a good mood because everyone loves me! the lab has two "prep" students - BS but bad grades/no experience so they can't get into grad school yet. so, they are half students, half technicians to get the better grades/hands on experience to make them ready for grad school. so, one of them presented today. anagha has to work with her a lot - she came over to talk to eun while i was talking to her and basically told her that she didn't know how lucky she is that she has me instead of her :)

news about the yankees's loss is still all over the papers. it's pretty funny, cause they're going over all the reasons why the yankees lost, like management, poor coaching decisions, poor pitching, etc. and then finally, the last reason - the one they don't even want to admit: "maybe the red sox are just a better team" :)

and i immediately got an email. there is a rochester alumni club! there are 360 rochester residents who are alums! so, i just got another email from the president seeing if there was enough interest to throw a young alum party on januarty 19th!!! i'm so excited! see, you guys are surrounded by fellow beavers - i'm isolated out here! and it turns out i'm a HUGE mit dork :) so, now i'm super excited and don't care if there is no young people interest and i just get to go to the old people parties. i love alums :)

fifth day in a row - complete craziness!
the girls in the lab are trying to schedule a girls night . . . so i might actually go out with people in the next week! tonight, jessie is going to syracuse to hang out with college friends - so edgar gets to sleep over. but of course, it's a friday so he'll have to work until like 11:30. then, tomorrow i'm going to buffalo to hang out with my family and celebrate my grandma's birthday and spend the night there.
my dad came last night and took edgar and i out to dinner. it was good - not nearly as weird as edgar was expecting. and we introduced ourselves to the owner - roxanne. so, now we REALLY are regulars.

now i have to go camp out at the community computer and do stupid bullshit.

i'm happy too :)

but i'm exhausted. went out last night, had a few drinks, had a good time. too bad i only got like 4 hours of sleep :(

oh well, at least peter's driving today, so hopefully i'll get to sleep in the car. . .

i don't follow baseball, that's how i can be in a bad mood. plus - i'm serious about this haven't seen sunshine thing! and i checked the weather - tomorrow afternoon, there is a chance of some sunshine. that is the ONLY sun expected in the next 10 days. i'm getting a serious case of seasonal depression and i'm getting it quick.

plus, i miss going out and having a life. i don't like dealing with a boyfriend i can't have over because my best friend doesn't like him. it's all giving me a big fat headache lately. like - gen promised me if i wanted to ditch this job and move to nyc right now, she'd still write me a good reference even though eun would be pissed at me.

i'm in a funk :( . . . and it's all because of this stupid weather! i really think i'll be visiting you guys in december - pre x-mas holiday. so, nush i know you have your test in early december and i know you guys book up early sooo - pick a weekend and i'll go by plane tickets. or tell me we are all going to fly to vegas for a weekend and i'll buy tickets there. but just pick the weekend and the location and i'll be there.

yay for the red sox. that was SUCh an unbelievable game :) i talked to my sister last night who was out near fenway and taking part in all the craziness. i kinda want to be in boston to watch some of it.. i might go up for a game or two.. or at least go if there is a game 7 :)

i hope the cardinals win tonight. even though my heart is with the red sox.. :) i think the cardinals are such a good solid non-pretentious team.. they should at least get the pennant tonight!

i was listening to the radio this morning.. first i heard all the anti-redsox talk and then.. i heard about this new dessert at serendipity, which i think is a lil crazy. megan- serendipity, which you may have gone to during one of your trips, is this dessert place here that is famous for large really decadent gooey dessert. apparently they have a new sundae that is $1000.

yup. not a typo. one THOUSAND dollars (pinky at the side of my mouth and everything). apparently it's 5 scoops of ice cream.. all the regular goodies.. plus.. 24kt gold leaf covered edible chocolate... chocolate sauce from some special cocoa bean that only grows on 5 trees in the world... and fruit-flavored caviar (apparently they inject the fish eggs with passionfruit and orange liquer). oh.. and they let you take home the bowl that it's in.

isn't that ridiculo? it's good to see the economy is picking up and we're in this weird decadent era. $1000 for ice cream! that's a month's rent! or 10 pairs of expensive jeans.. or a laptop! craziness.

it is still raining in rochester. it hasn't stopped raining this week. i haven't seen sunshine in days. it is starting to get to me. i almost bought a plane ticket last night for nyc to leave tomorrow and not come back until sunday night. i thought that might cheer me up . . .

but my dad is coming tonight to take me out to dinner (with edgar - first time there has been parent/edgar contact since *the night*) and it's my grandma's birthday so i'm going to buffalo on saturday . . .

i played with jessie last night, so that was a little better. and i slept a lot. i need to go to the gym and rock climbing and stare at bright lights and try not to let the fact that there is no longer sun in rochester bother me.

so, there is a room with hoods across from my desk. it's a designated mouse room, so i never work in there. in fact, only guys work in there because somehow the lab is divided that boys work with mice and girls work with human. so, this kid matt (who i share my cubbie area with) listens to the most random music! he's like that quiet science dork who listens to ghetto rap. today it's metallica so it's making me super happy :)

re: game

i'm just going to watch it at home. i can't really eat or drink anything, so i'd rather watch it at home. also, i want to go to the gym first, so i wouldn't have time to go to the gym and then make it to a bar on time. if they make it to game 7, though, i might want to watch it somewhere.

the only plan i have for wed night is my 2 gym classes, so i might be able to meet up with you guys later if you're out. it all depends on how much sleep i get tonight, though. if tonight's game is anything like the last two, i'm probably not going to be up for going out tomorrow night.

evelyn's girlfriend, deanna, is going to be in town this week for work. jackie and i are going to take her out on thurs night - we're going to free wine. if you and your cousin are up for cheap wine and chinese food, you guys should come! rups - you should come, too! megan - hop on a plane and we'll see you here :)

our xmas party has been confirmed - im really glad its the week after the CFA cause it tends to be a rowdy event and if i couldnt go for studying i would have been disappointed.

and this friday my boss is having his wedding reception - i was kinda bummed out cause dev couldnt go, julie is out of town, rupa and toral both said they would get back to me, but ameya just said he would go! i cant wait now :) its been sooo long since Ive seen him, and im missing his halloween party cause ill be in seattle (shh dont tell him yet...ill tell him that after he comes to my party on friday :))

ok, so there is this guy in my lab . . . who either thinks i'm really dumb (entirely possible) or i think he likes me (well, entirely possible 'cause let's face it - i'm hot ;) ) he is always questioning my methods. but in wicked stupid ways - like, how long do you wait to run your samples on the lsr? (i know that made no sense, but work with me) ok, he's one of the people in charge of the lsr . . . but if you look at the sign up list, i'm on that machine every other day! so, i don't know whether he is finding a stupid excuse to talk to me, or if he thinks i'm an idiot and the reason that eun is having problems with her dyes is 'cause i wait too long to run my samples. i don't know, he's just weird. and his questions are *friendly* - he doesn't say like hey, how was your weekend. it's like awkward pause. so, um, how long do you wait to run your samples? i don't, it's just weird. i can't figure out whether he's being an ass, helpful, or awkwardly attempting to be nice.

neither of the guys from y tu mama tambien is in nine queens. i didn't recognize any of the actors as people i should know, but i could be wrong.

one of the guys from y tu mama tambien, gael garcia, is in a new movie - the motorcycle diaries, i think, or something like that. it's supposed to be good. it's in the theaters now - i really wanna see it. i like gael garcia - he's a cutie :) the other guy from y tu mama tambien, diego luna, was in dirty dancing, havana nights. i caught a piece on tv about the two of them the other day. it's funny cause they're both the most famous mexican actors right now, and they're best friends. after y tu mama tambien, gael garcia (my fav of the two, although i'd take either!) has taken more artsy, independent roles (like el crimen del padre amaro, where he's a priest who gets a young girl pregnant); whereas diego luna has taken on more mainstream american films (he's working on another movie now, can't remember which on).

ok, i guess this is enough useless info for all of you. i'm guessing megan might be the only one who might be slightly interested ;)

as for nine queens, i didn't know that there was an american version of it too.

my group is silly, we have meetings every mon and tues at 9 am...

my favorite cousin from india is coming tonight :) he gets in at 1030 or so from boston. im not sure how im suppsoed to study while im supposed to entertain him...but we shall see...

im going to seattle next weekend. im taking friday off and going thurs - monday morning. im pretty excited, but also kinda scared...i think ill be going there next summer for good....scary right...

nine queens

i've heard of it. a movie that is out right now with the ugly guy that always plays the dumb sidekick and . .. i think . . . one of the guys from y tu mama tambien? no. some hispanic dude that was in a movie i saw. crap, what's the name of it?!?! anyway, that movie is based on nine queens - the reviewer of the american remake said it's fine, but if you've already seen nine queens don't bother. and if you don't mind subtitles, just see nine queens.

my take on subtitles - i watched city of gods, bella epoque (spelling?), and various other subtitled movies and barely even noticed. i TRIED to watch passions of christ and could NOT get into it - partially because of the subtitles. i think the moral of the story is it needs to interest me in order for me to read the subtitles. and didn't we watch a subtitled movie tha sashank recommended that we had to read to nush? and we started doing it in voices?

yes, boys ARE girls

but no, peter's not our favorite just because he lives closer. jackie and i are on his side because we think the other guys dicked him over. i like the other guys, though, and i still hang out with them when i go home. but if it comes down to choosing between them and peter, i'd definitely stick with peter.

jackie and este do have constant romantic issues. right now they're on their "we're not speaking to each other" phase, which is another reason why it would be soo much better to be able to avoid them in nc. este called jackie a couple of months ago and left her a really mean drunken message, basically professing his love for her (yet again) and yelling at her for leading him on. at the end of the message, he was like "if you think nothing's ever going to happen between us, if you have no feelings for me whatsoever, tell me to stop calling you and i will." even though jackie's refused to tell him that on several other occasions, she was pissed after she listened to his angry message, so she sent him a text message telling him not to ever call her again. they haven't spoken since.

i saw girl with a pearl earring this weekend. it was really good! i also saw an argentinian movie that my dad got through netflix and my bro brought with him. it's called nine queens. megan, if you don't mind subtitles, i recommend it. we all really liked it :)

i had a boring/good weekend. i saw starsky and hutch! yeah, it was pretty silly . . . i went rock climbing yesterday - but only for a little. BUT! i got to the top of a wall i previously couldn't - in fact, had to climb it twice to get to the top yesterday. it juts out at the top so it scares me a lot.

now, my subjects who i've been playing with their blood have moved out of hospital yesterday - so they need to come in to have their blood drawn. which means its going to be happening all day instead of in the morning. so, i'm going to be here until 6 or 7. which doesn't include analysis - which i'm putting off until tomorrow.

and that is all. got now. keep blogging for the next half an hour 'cause i'm just going to be sitting at my desk!!!

hi ladies - i had a good weekend, too. i had fun with my bro and his girlfriend all weekend. we went to the red sox bar last night, riviera, and watched the game there. it was so much fun! a couple of tables around us were yankees fans, so it was fun teasing each other and stuff all game. it was even better that we won it in the end :) whoa - now that i think about it, we sat at that bar for over 7 hours yesterday! sad, huh? now i'm sleepy and i got my period this morning. . .

regardless of how the redsox do today (or the rest of the week, if it comes to that), at least i have north carolina this weekend to look forward to! jackie, peter, and i are driving down for the miami / nc state football game. we're staying with evelyn, and jessie aleman is flying up from miami and meeting us there, too. there might be a little bit of drama, though, cause peter got in a fight with the rest of the guys we went to school with (este, mario, gaby, george), and i found out that they're going to the nc state game, too. and i can't imagine the UM section at the stadium being very big, so there's definitely a chance that we'll run into them. i just hope they don't get drunk and start stupid shit. . .

i'm glad you are in such a good mood.. and that yesterday was so fun. i was thinking about coming but had a LONG day at work and wasn't up for partying :) although i wanna back in the loop on weeknight plans so i can try and meet up more.

i had a really fun night too. i worked till about 9ish then met my friend priya's fiance for dinner with pia and her mom. we went to this trendy little noodle place that was SO good. it was the prices of republic but i think the food was better and it was so trendy. apparently the place is really new. anyway we ate there and then i had a really nice conversation with vid, my friend's fiance about marriage.. and her family.. he has all these questions about things and it was just so great to see someone that cares about her so much.

anyway.. by the end of it all i was exhausted and needed to come home. i'm glad to hear that jack is actually good for you ;)

i'm in the best mood

i had so much fun last night! i haven't been out partying on a weeknight in like 2 weeks, so i forgot how happy it makes me! (even though i get way too little sleep).

went to manahatta yesterday - it's one of my friend jordan's parties. one of our friends from miami, alex (aka spikey), was in town for the night. he's friends with rey, richard, and jordan (richard, jordan, and spikey all went to cornell together). so we hung out with spikey and jordan last night. the music was AWESOME! rupa, you should have come. you would have loved it! they played really good hip-hop. and there were quite a few brothers around, too ;) anyways, it was fun to have a miami guy to dance with, too. looks like spikey developed a crush on me after seeing me again for like 2 minutes. he's a really fun and sweet guy, but definitely nothing more than just a friend. they're all going to cornell today for homecoming weekend, but they want to hang out again sunday night when they're back in the city.

oh yea - and diets suck! jacks and i were determined to stick to our diet and not touch alcohol, so we started out with sugar-free redbull. then we had a diet coke. then we were dancing, and it was getting hot. . .and come on, you can't be in a club with really good hip-hop and not drink. so. . .we gave in (yea, we all know i'm spineless). rupa, we had your drink! diet coke and jack - supposedly, jack's the best alcohol for dieters cause it doesn't have too much carbs.

oh well, we're doing the jackie and julie version of the south beach diet :)

oh yea - and the university of miami pulled off the greatest comeback in college football last night! they were playing like ass and losing by like 17 in the first half. then they come out and score like 3 touchdowns in the 3rd quarter, and then come back from behind and score the winning touchdown with like 1 min left in the game! i know you guys could care less about all of this, but i have to get all this excitement out of my system somehow!

oh yea, and my bro and annie (his gf) get in today at 6! hopefully i'll manage to squeeze in a nap somewhere . . .

this day is never ending!

i'm in the home stretch of my day being over . . .
i just need to run samples on the machine (which eun has now started) and then i'm done! i've already done all the cleaning and writing down and moving stuff that usually comes at the end of the day. i do have to bring home a bunch of stuff so i can write up an excel sheet tomorrow. my other option is to actually come to work - and let's be serious! last time i came here on a friday thinking i'd get out really early was my birthday - and i was here the whole day. better to just stay home :)

my two are great...

primary care is bijal mehta, but its near columbus circle...you may not want to go that far...but she is really nice.

and my gyno is harry lee. he is the best. kinda dorky asian guy but really smart and makes you feel really comfortable...isnt around all the time though, only works in the office like 3 days a week, but my mom said that was normal since the rest of the time they are usually delivering babies...

if your healthcare accepts either of these people let me know and i can give you more info :)

dev doesnt have to pay a dime for his stuff! and he doesnt have to chose anything! he can go see anyone, anywhere, anytime...

don't like being an "adult"

yea, i'm not happy growing up either. but, a girl that works here just referred me to her doctor - some woman she says is amazing! so, i'm really excited. i had made an appt to go see a random doctor, but i'd much rather go with a personal referral, so i'm cancelling that one.

i guess i got lucky with the dentist - i just looked at the list of providers and picked the closest one to my office with a name i liked :) nush - i pay like $90/month for my health services too. it sucks! but, oh well, cest la vie.

now i just need to find a a gyno. . .maybe i'll ask the same girl that referred me to the general doctor (although i think i'll wait for her male office mate to leave the office)

i really dont like how you have to chose a doctor/dentist in your plan. and i dont like that this year i get 45 dollars taken out of every paycheck to cover all my medical expenses. thats 90 a month!! geez....

your dentist isnt in the cheaper dental plan :) i dont think any dentists are...and the ones that are im kinda scared to go to ... so ill just go for the more expensive plan...

i was supposed to have a training session at the gym today (you get one free for joining...) but im still way too tired / sick. i may go to the gym during seinfeld just for a break, but i rescheduled with her for next week...

who is your dentist? the one i went to was horrible (back in march) and i have been scared to go to one since...mark said his guy is really good so i made an apt, but they only gave me one in december!!!!

my cousin isnt coming...he is trying to get me to go to boston, but i really just want to relax, study, get my jcrew suit altered for all the conferences coming up, etc etc...

im kind of feeling better but i hate getting out of bed in the morning!! esp cause since i go to bed before dev, that is the only time we are both awake and i just want to stay like that forever...and the worst part is i keep thinking that this time last week we were driving around in our convertible in hawaii.....

i have gilmore girls! visit me!

i taped gilmore girls for jess and also to try to lure eun into watching it :) really, just this once to settle a debate. matt - this tech that sort of works in our lab, sort of doesn't HATES gilmore girls and he and i were debating about it, trying to convince eun who doesn't have time to watch tv. so, i brought in the tape so she could watch it whenever she wants (or if she wants) i even cut out the commericials :)

i don't feel awake today. i think because its not really nice out - although, its starting to clear up.

i went rock climbing at the rock climbing place i'm now a member of :) i LOVE it! i didn't think i was sore today until i came in and tried opening doors and realized my muscles no longer work :) but its really good because i def challenged myself last night. there were climbs that edgar did after me and was like wow - you did really well. and he's actually rock climbed before! and i played around with using leg muscles versus upper body strength. it was AWESOME!

and yeah - the deli is the random place we ended up at :) we had the best sandwich - we split a saulsalito wrap :) turkey with spicy mustard and lots of fresh lettuce and tomatoes and supposed to be spicy kind of cheese, but my bf is a whimp so we switched it to not spicy cheese. it was yummy :)

ok, now i need to go move cells into a different freezer. and i need to organize - but i may do that tomorrow. eun's busy today and might not be helping me at all . . . which means i might have a lot to do today . . .

back from dentist

he said i had beautiful teeth :) my gums are in a little bit of pain, but his office was so cool! ok, maybe my old dentist's office in miami was ghetto, which is why i'm not used to this, but the chair had a flat screen tv attached to it! so i got to watch j-lo and kanye west on regis and kelly while he cleaned my teeth, then i saw a bit of ellen's show. and, the guy was really nice. the yankees were on tv for like 2 seconds, so i obviously had to inform himi that i'm a red sox fan. he was like, "well, you should have waited till after i cleaned your teeth to tell me that." all in all, a good dentist visit.

nush - your cousin isn't coming anymore this weekend? i'll be around with my bro and his girlfriend, annie. jackie's thinking of going to pittsburgh to visit bryan. i think she's retarded and should stop going out of her way to see him since he doesn't even make an effort to see her, but whatever, i can't tell her anything. hopefully she'll see it on her own some day soon.

nush and megan - i talked to mena online for a little bit last night (rups, she's a friend of mine from home that visited me at mit sophmore year). she asked me how both of you were doing. nush - she HATES st. louis. she likes the school and her phD program and everything, but she hates the city. oh well.

i also talked to pulgui and carlitos. i dont usually sign on at home, so it was kind of nice talking to random people.

so, you guys know that gabe was here this past weekend. after we'd both had a few drinks, we were chatting about ramon and jojo's breakup. i told him that i've always thought ramon is cute, so then he started telling me that i should date ramon! i think it was all the wine talking :) i was like, "dude, he dated jojo - he's been tainted. besides, he's in med school in boston, i'm in nyc. no way."

while the boston fans were suffering, dev and i were jumping up and down :) i found out right before i left work that fox was showing both games! the regional one on local fox channel and then the other game on FSNNY. so we got to watch the game. we both like watching them at home much more cause we can eat together, and do work while we watch the game...

do you have the debates on tivo (the one last friday and last night) if you do i really want to come over this weekend and watch them. what are you doing this weekend? i think im here...i may go to Jersey sat morning to see my parents - they are going to my cousins house....i think thats about it though...

i've been getting every other day off because i have to work every other day - weekends included. and i don't always get a lunch break. or to leave at 5. so, eun took pity because she loves me and told me to only work every other day :)

i went rock climbing again last night! i love it! and there is this little deli that edgar and i now go to - we have eaten dinner there everyday this week. like, the owner is starting to recognize us! basically because we buy a quart of either milk or oj and just split it instead of getting sodas or something (they don't have mountain dew!) but she def laughed at me last night we i went up and asked for two cups - she was like oj again? its cool though, i like having a face to think of when i pay for my dinner.

but there's so many sports bars around midtown and close to our apt - i don't think he'll have a hard time finding something that's not too packed. i'd avoid espn zone if he doesn't want soemthing full of loud and rowdy yankees fans. i think his best bet is to try the smaller bars on the sidestreets in midtown; or, if he's close to our apt, there are also a lot of smaller bars where he should be fine. isn't there a baseball playoff package he can get? i know how annoying it is to not be able to watch your team play - i can't catch most of the heat games up here!

im not watching the game tonight...i have waaaay too much studying to catch up on. plus apparently my cousin doesnt like the idea that he is in boston by himself this weekend, and says he doesnt care if he has to take a bus for 4 hours each way to come see me and be back there monday for a meeting at babson...so if he comes ill get nothing done again!!! i really need to get some stuff done - and get some sleep!

jules - he said hed get you the cd. those things are def not asking too much! he loves being able to help, he just gets frustrated when things dont work for no apparent reason, and he has wasted like 3 nights on fixing our internet, and like 4 or 5 fixign his own. and the worst part is, its no ones fault. i think if there were someone or something to blame it would be easier...and he cant work 9-5, his job just isnt like that. and if he cant work after 6 when he gets home, he just gets nothing done. and two of his best friends that i met in Hawaii who started when he did: one is morman and married to this girl who is basically his shoe shiner. she does everything - deals with bills, drives him places, cooks, cleans, when he works all he has to do is work. the other guy lives in seattle and just met the right people and is now at a manager level. dev is just getting pissed that he is here and has to deal with all this extra crap that is just taking up too much time. anyway, more on that later...

rupa: do you think your extensive tv system (which i dont really know what you have) would get the cardinals game on tonight?? from what i understand both the games are at 8 and on Fox, which means it is most likely regionally based....i thought id ask to see if you think you would get both, and if so if you wouldnt mind us coming over. we will buy you dinner and beer :) if you are planning on going home and watching the red sox, dont worry about it, he will either figure something else out or just watch the yankees, but i thought it was worth asking :)

things are good today.. i went to pilates yesterday.. didn't watch gilmore girls or the game.. well i tivo'd both and watched the game this morning :) but for some reason i'm waking up at like 4am everyday and last night that made me crash right away. gonna go home early so i can watch game 1 :)

work is blah today.. same ol.. lots of stuff that needs to get done.. but nothing really notable. they are finally finished construction on the floor i think and everyone is probably moving next week. that most likely means i stay in the windowless office.. but at least it's an office... and it's by myself.. and my department will finally be on the same floor as me.

third debates tonight! i am really happy to see so many real efforts out there this year to get people voting. in the past, the groups promoting voters seemed almost like those that do things for earth day.. where people know they are there and their message is really in the back of people's minds but no one is listening. i feel like this year, the message is really EVERYWHERE (yes they have incorporated in every WB show). and kids especially will finally do something about it. :)

if you want to make it so that you can see the pic, when you add a pic (i'm guessing you are doing it in blogthis).. it asks you if you want it "inline" or if you want a link to it... it does that on the screen after where you upload the pic. make sure that you click on inline.

another thing to check is that you shouldn't see any "" tags after or before the picture when you are looking at the blogthis window...

days off and other such craziness

i DID have the day off yesterday! but not because of the holiday . . . because i worked 9 to 5 on sunday . . .
the excitement of my weekend - i joined a rock climbing club and went rock climbing for the first time yesterday!!! IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! the girl who signed us up made a mistake and gave us a free introductory course/bilay certification (it's supposed to be $30) the owner taught us, he started out seeming like a real prick but turned out to be really nice - just initially annoyed to see that one of his employees comped $60 because they were stupid. then me and edgar took turns climbing - i climbed all the way to the top on 3 different trails! i'm not that sore today, so i'm going to do more when we go on wednesday. SO much fun!!! like, want you guys to come visit again so we can go there and rock climb!!!! and they have a high ropes course too!

nush - i'm glad you had fun in hawaii! i'm sorry you're sick now :( did you do anything extra fun? snorkling? parasailing? take lots of pictures?

one last question/comment - i was playing with my amazing ipod this weekend ('cause i HAD a weekend! both saturday and monday off!) and it was awesome of julie to load stuff on it . . . but apparently she's a little behind. anusha has no address and julie still lives on wall street. how am i supposed to mail either of you cute things if i don't know where you live?!

Highlights: Sunset, drives, ocean, LV...

Hey girls, Im back :( and completely exhausted, and sick....

but the trip was amazing. the first two days were just dev and me, i have never dreamed of a more romantic sunset watching experience. it was absolutely beautiful and on a basically deserted beach - just me and him and one other family on the other end of the beach...

after that his whole group - like 600 microsoft people got there, but that was fun too - it was nice to finally meet all the people he talks to me about on a daily basis. i got to meet two of his best friends there.

and the highlight - he bought me a louis vitton purse!! im not exactly sure what came over him, but we had walked in the store, and we had a room credit from the program that was supposed to cover eating, drinking, beach expenses. but we didnt use it all and you can charge Mr. Vitton merchandise to the room, so he was like pick whichever one you want...it is really nice :) i used it at the closing party sunday night :)

im excited to read through all the old blogs...thatll get me through the day...im going to leave early and go sleep...im soooo tired.

when i got to work (15 minutes after i planned on getting here), i found out 1. the place where they hold my blood has been calling to see when someone was going to pick it up for a while 2. eun called in because her nanny called in sick so i'd be doing everything alone (again)

so, i finished up the analysis BY MYSELF! well, just gathering the data . . . but still, it's likean $80,000 machine! and at the end, there is your usual fill this container empty this contain kind of thing . . . so, i thought i'd be a good girl and take those steps seriously. so, the thing to empty wasn't very full - that got left the way it was. the thing i needed to fill is really complicated to open. once i got it open, i found out that it did not have enough fluid for the next person - so i should fill it. well, the place to refill it is a box with a bag of liquid - like a box of wine. and it was basically empty. so, i got to drag the next box and try to open it. and then spill. and then fix. and then spill. basically, i was an idiot. but i FINALLY got it working and filled the container - just as the next person was walking in. THANK GOD! because it's one of the guys that works in my lab (this is a community machine) and he has a vaguely holier than though air about him soo . . . i was really excited to be all finished by the time he walked in AND have nicely followed procedure :)

guess what guess what?? i only have one meeting today. which means... i have ALL day to do real work (and BLOG). i'm so excited.. i hate my schedule on days where the outlook thing is just blue all day long (which means full).

another random tidbit. i watched american top model yesterday for the 2nd time. the first time b/c i was bored.. the 2nd b/c i wanted to see how the ugly annoying indian girl was doing. she was not that attractive and annoying b/c she kept saying that she was doing this for all the indian women.. breaking into the modelling world. but there are REALLY attractive and great indian women that could actually do that. she was just not so great looking and a lil thuggish.. i don't like indian people that act black... i like indian people that go black.. cuz i am one :)

anyway... so she was annoying and is always trying to be "over-indian" in these shows. it just seemed like a mockery... soo.... she SUCKED in this episode. her pics came out bad.. she had weird answers to questions.. and they KICKED her off. yay! for two reasons.. she deserved to go.. and now i don't have to watch that show ever again.

south beach

yea, we read the book. well, the book is like 5 pages of reading, and then basically just a huge list of differents foods and what you should eat/avoid.

basically, it's like no carbs for 2 weeks. that's phase 1 of the diet, and you're supposed to lose 7-13 pounds during that phase. then in phase 2 you start to add carbs back slowly, but none of the starchy carbs. . .just more veggies and fruit and stuff. they had a couple of recipes, too. so the 3 of us can take turns cooking for each other, and it'll be good if we're all doing it!

oh yea, and during phase 1, the strict no-carb phase. . .no alcohol! so. . this should save me and jackie some money :)

tomorrow starts my big study! 5 patients will be housed in the hospital for 11 days and have about 35 mL of blood drawn every other day. i get to take all the blood, separate out the white blood cells, use some of them for one anaylsis technique and freeze the rest for experiments to be done after the study is finished. its really important i do everything right because this is like the first time i'm being trusted with truly irreplaceable blood (these people are getting paid $1200 for their time and blood - so its not a study we can go oops! on)

as for chang's - i'm not officially finished until 10/15. technically, they can call me in saturday and sunday night this weekend - but they probably won't. or at least i probably won't answer :) i've given them my cell phone # multiple times, but they still only right down my apartment number - if i happen to be out when they call . . . sucks to be them ;) management doesn't seem to be bitter - but i'm a hostess! i should be easily replaceable!

so i wrote a blog this morning and it never posted! sad. now i don't remember what i'd written. something about the weather. . . i think i was actually saying that the only reason i like this weather is cause i know that there's still hope for a few more warm days. i hate knowing i have to take a jacket with me everywhere!

dude, seriously dumb.
so, she kidnapped the little girl and got caught. then, she tried to not be taken back to LA, but was going to be. so, her brilliant bf said set fire to some piece of paper he had in the back and distract the driver. well, they did and he was . . . into an accident. the driver was knocked out and the bf was hurt so badly he couldn't move - but kim was fine (shocking) and she radioed for ambulance. then ran into the woods . . . where she was chased by a cougar and then caught in a snare until a guy found her and saved her. he wanted to take her to the ranger's station but she said no so they went to his place instead - where she told him about the nuclear bomb. so, he showed her his bomb shelter he built since he's crazy and thought we were going to be attacked. then he fakes an attack to get her to stay until she realizes it and asks politely to leave and he let's her - armed with some supplies and a gun to get back to the highway. which she does and get's a liquor store owner to let her use his bathroom even though it's closed (this is after the bomb has gone off and she thinks her dad is dead) then, a desparate guy starts banging on the door to be let in to get supplies (convenience store stuff - water, bread, etc) and the owner won't so he breaks down the door. the desparate guy knows about the bomb and is taking his 7month pregnant wife to the mountains. then, he attacks the owner to let him get food, so stupid kim pulls out the gun and fires a shot into the air. before, the owner had called the cops so they show up and start bugging the wife left in the car so the desparate guy freaks out and walks up to kim to get the gun back. she just stands there until he effortlessly takes it from her hands. then the owner lunges at him and get's shot. seriously . . . she's an idiot. she single handedly has injured her bf and a cop, sent a man to prison and possibly killed another guy. and she remains intact!

weather

i like it better now that i know it's not necessarily going to be cold tomorrow just because it's cold today. i hate having to bring a jacket with me everywhere i go. i know i'm from miami and i'm weird, but that's my two cents on the weather. . .

i almost got enough sleep last night. not quite as much as i would have liked, but it's all good. i'm looking forward to going to bed early tonight :-)

i was actually productive yesterday when i got home from work! jackie and i went to the grocery store and got enough food for the next couple of weeks or so (we don't eat at home much). then i unpacked, cleaned the bathroom, spoke to my girls in miami for a while. not a bad evening at all.

gabe's coming to visit this weekend! i'm excited - i haven't seen him since valentines day. the only thing that kind of sucks is that his girlfriend is still under age, so i don't know where we'll be able to go at night. does anyone remember where the scratcher is? ;)

im not the biggest fan of this weather only because yesterday was so hot, and then today is crisp - so i dont know if i should bring a jacket or not! in a few weeks when i know ihave to bring a jacket everywhere will be better for me :) esp if i can stay at devs and walk to work in 5 min :)

we went to best buy yesterday, window shopped for a video camera for my parents that we can buy today for our trip. my dad said ok for the one i wanted this morn so ill go buy it after work. he got a 21 in flat screen computer monitor yesterday :) its awesome! waaay too big for his tiny shoebox room, but still very exciting. itll be fun to watch movies on such a good monitor...

jack - nina killed her contact after she got his info out of him and bargained to go to the next place to figure out the next link. their plane got shot down by american military super secret team and nina took jack hostage. then she conned the president into giving her immunity for her furture crime of killing jack - he said ok. then jack captured her after she told them the info. blah blah blah. a couple of dead terrorists, they thought they found the bomb but it was a decoy, then they found the real bomb but its a super special trigger that can't be turned off (umm, why don't more people who set off bombs use this amazing trigger???) so he had to fly it to the desert and let it explode so that it wouldn't hurt most people. and he'd have to die doing it. but then george mason snuck on board and told him he'd finish the flight - even though jack had told him no because he was two coughs and a wheeze from death but since it was only 10 minutes away, jack thought close enough and jumped.

michelle and tony are going to go on a date after its all over.

a girl who looks really familiar - but i can't remember from where - got shipped over to replace darlene from rosanna. turns out she is michelle's old boss and they had some issues, but they aren't telling us what yet. now michelle is her boss. they are sort of acting like she hit on michelle - it's very weird.

umm . . . oh! the warner's! yeah, so it was neither the dad nor the fiance - it was marie!!!! she is like a psycho extremist! after her mom died, she disappeared for a month and hooked up with sihid ali! so, she killed some agents and her fiance and was going to kill her sister but jack shot her in the arm.

her sister is dumb. first, she got kidnapped with her pi by sihid ali and got tortured and watched them kill the pi. then, one of the guys was about to kill her when jack broke in - so the guy committed suicide instead. then, jack used her to pick out which guy was sihid ali from the mosque. then she is the one that caught marie. sihid ali was tortured but wouldn't tell until jack captured his family and pretended to have them killed, but really it was just magic with cameras.

my weekend was boring but i officially quit chang's on friday :) actually, saturday night was probably my last shift ever - even though i'm technically still employed until 10/15. sunday was my brother's bday, so him, his gf (who he lives with), parents, grandma (dad's mom), jessie and i met at jessie's restaurant (my brother and my grandmother like italian better). def nice to see everyone :) my mom gave me a necklace i had picked out and an audrey hepburn purse as bday presents. i've wanted an audrey hepburn purse, so i am pretty excited :)

other than that, i've just been watching 24 all weekend . . . .

the best weekend

i had sooo much fun this weekend. i went to the airport, picked up my mom and dev (he did come with me), he slept the whole way in the car cause he was so tired from all the travel, and i loved it, cause my mom and i just talked the whole way. we got home, sashank and kerry came, i got to open all my online shopping stuff. half of which i didnt like, but its ok, the other half was great! we had dinner, then my dad dev sashank and i talked till like 2 am, well i feel asleep around 1230, but they talked. dev said it was really comfortable.

sat, we got up just hung around the house, then dev and i went to the mall to return most of the banana republic stuff. unfortunately im def a size 6 there :( and everything i had bought was a size 4. i need to lose weight again, i dont like this...anyway, i got a few things, bought an awesome suit from j crew that feels as thought it was tailor made for me! we came home, dev and i took a nap in the family room upstairs. i sat in the reclining chair on the couch and he laid in my lap, it was nice :) its frustrating to be around family when all we want to do it take a nap together and you cant do that, but this worked. then dev, my grandparents, and i went to the temple on the way to nalini aunties house for dinner - my grandparents love him - he takes such good care of them, as if they are his own grandparents. i love it. dinner was awesome, they go so out of their way to make elaborate dinners for us. we got home around 1, dev talked to my parents while i fell asleep on the couch (pattern developing...) on sunday we just got up, packed up, went to mamouns in New haven for lunch and then sashank and kerry dropped us off at the train station. after trecking through manhattan we finally reached my apt around 7 pm, had some pizza, did some work, i was asleep by 11, and he came to bed at 3. it was so nice :) i cant wait for hawaii!!! today after work we are going to best buy to go buy a video camera for the trip. my parents have been wanting a new one so we will pick it out, use it, then give it to them for their trip to brazil in november...

i feel the opposite about this week! i think because i've been doing so much in the lab, all in preparation for the chaos that will ensue next wednesday. this is the first time i've sat down at my desk since i started working at 9. oh well :) i think i got analysis rescheduled and i might be out of here by 2 :)

i'm SO SO SO happy that it's friday. i think after the super fun weekend last weekend and the sleepless monday morning, this week has gone by SO slowly. i'm so happy it's the weekend. i was thinking about going to boston, but i think i might just hang out here.. do fun stuff with the indian kids and soak in one of the last good weather weekends.

did anyone watch the debate last night? i watched the first 5 minutes and then turned it off b/c kerry was embarassing himself. and then i watched the second half where kerry was actually REALLY good. i hope he wins.. but i don't know.. bush sometimes preaches like such a minister that i think the masses will be fooled :)

electric storm is a good song. i believe it was released as a single though. i've only seen it on "best of" CDs, not on a full album...

my new favorite U2 song is electrical storm...i hadnt heard it until a few days ago on my ipod...what album is it from??

and why does a dunkin donuts medium coffee cost me 2.00!?!??!!? i can get just a little more than that at starbucks for 2.39!!!! but it tastes soooo good.
